Construction

Project cost reality, one source of truth.

Builders, sub-contractors, and head contractors running Odoo for project cost control, sub-contractor management, claims, retentions, and the finance that has to survive a long-tail audit. Configured to AS 4000 or your local standard.

Processes

What we configure for Construction.

Configure the standard product first; customise only when standard truly cannot.

  1. 01

    Project costing

Budget by phase, by trade, by cost code. Committed cost from purchase orders, actual cost from invoices and timesheets, forecast cost from variance projections.

  2. 02

    Sub-contractor management

Sub-contractor onboarding with insurance, licence, and compliance documents. Work packages assigned, signed-off, claimed, and paid through structured workflows.

  3. 03

    RFI and variations

Requests for information and variation requests tracked end to end, with cost impact, schedule impact, and customer approval logged.

  4. 04

    Claims and retentions

Progress claims aligned to milestone schedules, retention amounts withheld and released per contract, with a reporting view that survives an audit.

  5. 05

    Plant and equipment

Asset register for plant, hire-out hire-in tracking, maintenance schedules, and the journal automation that keeps depreciation honest.

Pain, addressed

Where Construction clients usually start.

  • 01 · The pain

Project margin is a guess until month-end, sometimes longer.

    Our answer

Daily project cost reports against budget. Committed plus actual plus forecast, refreshed every time a PO is raised or a timesheet is approved.

  • 02 · The pain

Sub-contractor claims are reconciled in spreadsheets and arguments.

    Our answer

Structured progress claims tied to work packages. Claimed, approved, retained, and paid amounts visible on a single screen, by trade and by job.

  • 03 · The pain

Variations get lost between site, head office, and the customer.

    Our answer

Variation register with attachments, costing, customer approval, and journal impact, all in Odoo. One place, one audit trail.

  • 04 · The pain

Retentions tracking is a calendar reminder, not a system.

    Our answer

Retention schedule per contract, with release dates, accrual entries, and reminders. Money owed to you is no longer money lost.

Frequently asked

Questions about Construction.

Can Odoo handle progress claims under AS 4000 or NEC? +

Yes. We configure claim periods, retention percentages, and milestone schedules per contract. The claim PDF can be generated to your customer's required format; we have shipped templates for AS 4000, NEC, and bespoke contracts.

Does Odoo integrate with Procore or Aconex? +

Integration both ways is buildable. We typically keep cost in Odoo and project documents in the document-control system, with a thin sync layer. Often the better path is to consolidate, not integrate.

How do we handle sub-contractor compliance documents? +

Sub-contractor record holds insurance certificates, licences, and inductions, with expiry dates and reminders. Purchase orders and payments are blocked for non-compliant sub-contractors automatically.

What about scheduling and gantt charts? +

Odoo Project provides task-level gantt views. For master programmes integrated with critical-path scheduling we typically integrate to Microsoft Project or Primavera; that is an Integration scope.
